Something a little different today – the CSIRO is investigating the use of dung beetles to help break down cattle poo from the 20 million cattle in Australia. Resident dung beetles could manage native fauna poo but weren’t interested in the poo from introduced species such as cattle. CSIRO scientists have found 23 species of dung beetle that can help break down cattle dung leading to recycling of nutrients back into the soil, better pasture, reduced numbers of flies and improved cattle condition.
