HP Avian Influenza H5N1 – Sea Lions Uruguay

It is devastating to read in Promed today that at least 400 sea lions dying as a direct of result of HPAI. Testing of sea lions along the Uruguay coast line has revealed 43% are positive for HPAI. True numbers of deaths are likely to be closer to 800. Mass mortalities of numerous species of wild birds have occurred globally with many other species of wild animals affected and three human deaths reported in South East Asia this year.
Report any sightings of bird deaths to the Emergency Animal Disease hotline in Australia : 1800 675 888
If you do see any sick or dying animals, please do not touch them and place yourself at risk.
